Why I Love Living in Crowthorne
Damian Savvides
We struck gold with Crowthorne… after searching through some very questionable properties on either side of the M3 corridor we landed in Crowthorne. The drive into the town was a very pleasant one, surrounded by nature and very friendly people of Crowthorne.
And so we moved into Crowthorne after having our offer accepted on a flat located on the outskirts of Broadmoor Hospital. By the way, we actually didn't know what this place was until our first monday morning came about 10am when the sirens belted out a warning siren, I had originally thought a war had broken out, I quickly locked the doors closed the windows and listened to the news. Only to find out that anyone living within a few miles of Broadmoor hospital had this warning siren test procedure every monday morning. Sirens have now stopped, but I often thought this added an interesting and charming character to Crowthorne.

Over the years I have watched this town developed, and the never ending roadworks which is now part of daily life, this town has grown and with many new major developments mainly Bucklers Park and Cricket Field grove. Population now stands at about 14800 as recorded in the office of national statistics 2019.
With many happy years in Crowthorne and moving twice within Crowthorne to a larger family home where we are now lucky enough to be raising our 2 boys who go to nursery and school locally are thriving in this wonderful community.
The local Parish council does an excellent job always arranging events such as the market stalls, Christmas fairs and Summer fairs, which we do our very best to attend and enjoy, even more so now the boys take part.
If you ever want to know what events are coming in Crowthorne visit this page https://www.crowthorne-pc.gov.uk/
You will often see me walking around town more so in the summer, just enjoying the natural beauty and all the beautiful homes dotted around Crowthorne and you can only really appreciate them by walking around, if you see me staring at your home, it’s probably because I am enjoying and taking in the beauty of it.
I use as many of the local services as I can, shopping in the many charity shops, there are so many interesting finds, especially in COATS charity shop. I often order my fish and chips from Golden Fry https://www.goldenfrycrowthorne.online on the high street, they never disappoint. I am Always checking my Lidl App for free treats and going in for a quick shop. We are also very lucky to have wonderful independent shops such as Loic's Deli https://www.loicsdeli.co.uk/ , Loic is always very welcoming and great for a little chat. And not to forget Berkshire Cycles https://www.berkshirecycles.co.uk/ who supplied my son's bike.
If I am ever in need of information or any local traders the Crowthorne Village Facebook page never disappoints, it is a well managed friendly group, full of helpful people within the community, and I love reading the posts about local people helping each other in times of need.
As I reflect back, I think I live in a very privileged part of the UK, and I haven’t even mentioned anything about our top performing schools or wonderful walk through Wellington College, but that is for another article.
